We will miss you furry friend!

Whiskers. Whisk. Scat Cat. Poo Trash. Brat Cat. Kitty Kitty. Mr. Whiskers. He was known by many names, but we loved him none the less. Well, most of us. He came into our family when he was about 2 years old. His first owner, had a new girlfriend who was allergic, so he dropped Whisk off at the vet hoping someone would adopt him. The vet he dropped him off at was Max Brinkerhoff's clinic, who was a dear friend and neighbor. He gave us a call asking if we were willing to take in a new cuddly, furry friend. My dad has never been a pet person, so my mom and I snuck off to the vet to pick him up. My mom hid Whiskers in her shirt when we returned home, hoping to sneak him by dad. We couldn't keep him a secret for long! After much begging, and retelling of poor Whisk's sob story, my dad couldn't do anything but say, "Okay".

He survived an airborne free fall from a small cut out of a certain brother's window screen, two floors up. He lived through years of name calling, kicks, and endless hugs from small children. He had many friends, one of which was very speical. My dear sister Maddi. He chose her over everyone else. She was probably two or three (we can't seem to remember when we did get him) years old when Whiskers joined our family. He slept with her every night, and always chose her to cuddle with. They "played" outside together, well, as much as a cat plays. Becasue he was so much older when we got him, he never quite bonded with us. He usually hid under beds, or escaped out the door. But we all loved him!

LP was sad when he heard the news today. He offered us his kitty, but his kitty is sick too, and probably won't be around very long. He was excited to realize that Whiskers and his family dog, Lady, would be having lunch together today. Thank goodness for sweet children to reminds us to smile. He also said, they could get married! He wanted to bring the famiy a plant, and he was very specific on what he was looking for. Whiskers was black, white and gray, so naturally, LP was looking for a particular pail that was gray. They struggled to find one, but he was happy with what they did find. Thank you Heward family!

He lived a great 15 years.

Are you kidding me?!?!

Between my first two classes, I have a 40 minute break which is when I usually do my homework for that day :) The spot mid-way between both classes that I chill in, is the cafeteria. This break I speak of, is in the mid-morning/late morning time frame. It's in between breakfast and lunch, so its usually pretty empty and quiet. Anyone who comes in can, for the most part, sit at their own table. I had strategically chosen the perfect table, perfectly separated from the other students. I pull out my planner, highlighter, pen, textbook and folder. I spread it all out so I can easily access each study item.

I get pretty focused, I'm reading some interesting information on the oppression of each gender, when some dude plops his tray of french fries and garden salad on my table! What the... He immediately turned to the table across the way and grabbed the salt and pepper, and I thought to myself, oh good, he's just going to use the salt and pepper and then will be on his merry way to his own table. NO such luck. He seasoned his delicious box of fries, and add on salad, pulled out the chair kiddy corner to me and sat down. HE SAT AT MY TABLE! I was SO close to opening my mouth and saying,

"Are you kidding me? There are 85 other tables in this whole cafeteria and you chose this table?!?!"

I was not going to move. I was determined to not make eye contact. I was not going to move any of my study materials. Not one inch. He then proceeds to spread out the newspaper. What?? Part of his morning reading material lays on top of my planner. Now, granted, I'm not using it to study, but come on! He is in my space! Come on dude! I continue to stew over him, and tried to focus on my reading. He then begins to eat, rather chomp and smack. Who is the guy?

Well, I ended up having to leave first cause I had class. But I held strong for 15 minutes!

Eat it, dude.

"Be Excellent to Each Other"

Roommate Kris brought the "bodacious" movie, 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure', home last week. Today after church, and a yummy/health lunch, made by Kris, we sat down to enjoy the movie. It is so totally awesome, dude! Great memories of a sweet childhood. I don't remember watching the sequil, 'Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey', but I do remember the cartoon! I thought I would share them with you :) Enjoy!

And don't forget their sweet air guitar skills!

The Doorstep kiss. Especially when you are trying to walk up the stairwell to your apt, and you have to maneuver around this.

No Green for Me

As I was walking to my car this morning, behind schedule and late for my first class, I realized I didn't have any green incorporated into my outfit. My first thought was, "Crap! I've got to go back and change." My second thought, "Oh heck, I'm not in HS anymore. No one is going to pinch me, let along talk to me. Who cares!" So I successfully went through the entire day without wearing something green, and without getting pinched.

However, as I continued through the day, I became very puzzled and quite surprised at the amount of people who did follow the "social contract" of wearing green for St. Patricks. On campus, and again at Wal-Mart it was like a sea of green. I was thoroughly fascinated by this habit we seemed to have gained since kindergarten; the fear of physical harm for not wearing a particular color on a particular day. Why do we conform to this "norm"? Why did I hesitate to further delay my tardiness to wear this magical color of luck?

Just a musing for today.

Hailey's Beautiful Day

I was once again blessed to travel back to beautiful Eugene to witness Hailey's baptism. It was wonderful to see the beautiful Wiltbank family.
